Awareness and Education Committee

Meeting Minutes

May 19, 2009

Present: Pastor Manns (Co-Chair), Jenni Eickelberg, Colleen Holz, Kim Lee and Mary Wisnet

The meeting was convened at 12:37 pm at United Way Fox Cities. Meeting Chair: PGM

For the June meeting, all committee members are requested to recruit at least one additional committee member. New members will bring additional energy, skill sets and resources to the committee.

Beginning at the June meeting, the committee will focus on:

1. Planning the annual report to the community scheduled for January 15, 2010,
2. Developing the Speaker’s Bureau.

Education

The committee brainstormed ways to educate the community on Project Promise:

• Send out a mailing to local companies and follow-up with a phone call.
• Contact Kimberly-Clark for possible on-site presentations (Pastor Manns).
• Host an informational session at the Appleton Library for the general public. This would require extensive marketing.
• Present at church venues – may be able to work with the Action & Impact Committee on “Faith to Face Week” scheduled for this fall.
• Arrange for public service announcements on radio (Kim will contact WEMI and WHBY).
• Arrange for an advertisement on movie screens at local theatres (i.e. Marcus).
• Contact local Rotary Clubs for possible presentations:
• Pastor Manns will contact Cindy Reffke at the Breakfast Rotary & Greg Bell at the Kiwanis,
• Colleen will contact the Neenah-Menasha Rotary,
• Jenni will contact Jennifer Wanke regarding the Appleton Downtown Rotary.

Kim will also explore working with youth ministry to garner support and spread the message.

Jenni will talk with Lou Chiquette at the Appleton Area School District regarding the possibility of distributing brochures at staff in-services.

Pastor Manns will check with the Executive Committee to see if there are any restrictions on the type of publicity the organization will be willing to participate in.

Report to the Community

Planning for the January 15 event will begin in July. Jenni agreed to serve as co-chair of the planning committee. A second co-chair will be recruited.

Brochure

The committee reviewed the brochure and agreed on the following changes:

· Colleen will work with the pie chart. The first option will be to copy the pie chart from the 2-1-1 information. If that proves problematic, Colleen will create a pie chart using the categories 1) Basic Needs, 2) Physical and Mental Health, 3) Income Support and 4) Other.

· The font style and size will be consistent throughout the brochure.

· Under 2-1-1, “free and confidential” will be added to the explanation.

· Under Membership Information, an e-mail address will be added for those wishing to sign up via the internet. The e-mail address will also be listed under the web site on the first page of the brochure.

· The extra lines under the Action and Impact Committee will be removed.

· The logo will be added to the back of the brochure.

· After some discussion, it was agreed to keep the word “unduplicated” in the statistics from the Emergency Shelter.

New Business

There was no new business.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 16, 2009, 12:30 – 1:30 at United Way Fox Cities.
